Complaint Procedure

Complaint Procedure

In order to take appropriate corrective action, the College must be made aware of any alleged violations of its policies, including but not limited to violations of its Anti-Discrimination, Anti-Harassment, Anti-Fraud, Anti-Retaliation policies, Rules and Regulations, or Student Code of Conduct. Therefore, anyone who believes that they have experienced or witnessed a violation of any College policy, rule or Code should report the complaint and/or violation as follows:

Complaint and/or Violation

If the individual(s) identified in each of the complaint and/or violation areas outlined above is unavailable, fails to respond, does not adequately resolve the complaint, or is somehow involved in the suspected violation/complaint, please contact the Provost/Vice President of the Learning Unit by filing this form for further assistance.

All complaints and reports will be reviewed, appropriately investigated, and addressed in a fair and impartial manner. All individuals involved can expect to be treated with dignity and respect.

Nothing in this statement of procedure shall prevent a person who believes a violation has occurred from filing a complaint with an appropriate governmental agency, such as the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, 110 West Michigan Avenue, Suite 800, Lansing, Michigan 48913, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 477 Michigan Ave # 865, Detroit, MI 48226, or with the Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Education, 1350 Euclid Avenue, Suite 325, Cleveland, Ohio, 44115.

Confidentiality. A person making a complaint (“Complainant”) may ask the College not to disclose their identity.  However, due to various federal and state laws, it is not always possible to guarantee confidentiality. Moreover, keeping a Complainant’s identity confidential may limit the College’s ability to investigate or respond to the allegations.

False Reports. False allegations or reports are prohibited and may result in discipline. This prohibition against false reports or statements does not apply to reports or statements which are made in good faith but ultimately found not to be substantiated.

Modifications. College Administration may modify this policy to adjust the identity, title, or contact information of the individuals to whom issues should be reported.
