Placement Testing
The Placement Testing Office is currently offering services on ground and remotely. For on-ground services, appointments are not required at this time but please be sure to bring your photo ID. Please find our availability below:
On-Ground Services:- Tuesday from 9:15 am – 6 pm
- Wednesday from 8:15 am – 5 pm

Getting Familiar
To accurately place students into their college courses, Macomb uses the ACCUPLACER Placement Test. Each test is computerized and comprised of various subjects.
- The Standard Test is made up of Reading, Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics, Advanced Algebra and Functions, and the WritePlacer Essay.
- The English Language Learner Test is made up of Reading, Language Use, Listening, Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics, Advanced Algebra and Functions, and the WritePlacer Essay.

If you are interested in or have questions regarding on-ground or remote testing, please email placementtesting@macomb.edu with the information below, and our office will happily direct you accordingly.
- Your full name
- Your Macomb ID number
- The semester you plan to start classes
- Your requests and/or questions regarding the Placement Test

Getting Prepared
ACCUPLACER offers a variety of study materials, including a free Study App. We highly recommend creating an account for the Study App to use the Learn as You Go feature. Learn as You Go allows you to take instructive and interactive practice tests online that resemble the actual test itself. In addition, ACCUPLACER also provides free sample questions, which are found in the links below. The Study App and sample questions will prepare you for success on your Placement Test and in your courses here at Macomb.

English Language Learner Test
Do I Have To Take It?
Most likely, yes. Placement testing is required of all new students and returning students who have not attended Macomb in several years, but there are a few exceptions.
You must take the Placement Test if:
- You are a new student
- You have not attended Macomb in the last two (2) years
- You have not successfully completed any college-level English, math or reading courses
You may be granted an exemption if:
- You have already successfully completed college-level coursework in English, math and reading
- You completed a similar placement test recognized by Macomb
- You are a guest student
- You are taking courses for personal interest only (allowed up to 16 credit hours)

Macomb Community College STRONGLY recommends that students sign up for and access the Placement Testing Study App before attempting their placement exam.
Students who wish to retest any section or the entire Placement Test or the Placement Test for ESL (English for Academic Purposes placement - EAPP) test, must wait seven (7) days from their initial testing date.
- There will be a $25.00 fee for retesting.
- Pay the retesting fee at the Cashier’s Office at either campus.
- Obtain the receipt and take it to the Placement Testing Office.
- Give the receipt to the Placement Testing Proctor.
After the initial retest, students must wait 120 days for further retesting.

Scores become inactive after two years. If students need to retest after two years, there will be no fee as this is considered an initial test. Additional tests will be considered retests and the Retesting & Fees Policy will apply. Go directly to the Placement Testing Office to retest if it has been two years since your last test.
