Beatrice Salazar started Macomb unsure of her future. But after two years at the college, she discovered a love for learning, a passion for business and a renewed belief in her own potential.

Beatrice attended online high school due to the pandemic. Shortly before graduating in 2022, her mom encouraged her to enroll at Macomb. This wasn’t a random choice as Beatrice had been to Macomb before, having participated in performance camps and workshops as a child.

Although Macomb was familiar ground, this time around, the college became the launching pad for her future.

Macomb helps turn possibility into reality

“I am so excited to be transferring to Hope College. I always wanted to go away to college, but I never thought it would happen for me,” she said. “Because I had the chance to strengthen my academics at Macomb, it is possible for me to go to Hope College. This is a dream I never would have imagined.”

Not only is Beatrice attending Hope College, but she’s also earned scholarships that amount to a full ride at the private university. “This was 100 percent due to my time at Macomb,” she said.

Beatrice plans to major in business with a concentration in accounting and a minor in theater or dance. Her goal is to own and operate her own theater. Her time at Macomb helped shape that vision.

“The accounting and economics program is rigorous and rewarding,” she said. “It showed me how business skills can empower artists.”

Beatrice also credits her academic advisor for helping her navigate course selections and transfer planning. “They were instrumental in making sure everything aligned with my goals,” she said.

In addition, Beatrice was active in several on-campus activities. “The student life staff made it feel like home,” she said. “I got to visit places like Cedar Point and Frankenmuth. It was great.”

Outside the classroom, Beatrice works at a boutique in Royal Oak and performs as a freelance dancer on the side. She’s also passionate about fitness, travel and deepening her faith through Bible study.

Her advice to current Macomb students is simple. “Macomb is a low-risk, high-reward place to discover what you truly want. Make the most of it,” she said.
