Macomb Community College announces summer performing arts workshops for grades two through 12

Macomb Community College will present four summer performing arts camps for students grades two through 12. These workshops provide an engaging environment encouraging creative and personal growth while building artistic talent.

Drama Workshop:  June 24 - 28

Grades two – 12

The Drama Workshop emphasizes cooperation, movement and story development in a non-competitive environment. Exploring acting tools as well as art and music, students will learn to develop characters from familiar stories and develop physical, social and artistic skills through theater games, creative movement, improvisation and pantomime.

Cost: $175 for grades two - three for a half-day program, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Cost: $225 for grades four - 12 for a full-day program, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.  

Location: Lorenzo Cultural Center

Musical Theatre Workshop: July 8 - 20

Grades six – 12

The Musical Theatre Workshop introduces students to summer stock theater production, starting with audition and through the performance of Mean Girls Jr. in a two-week period. Students will develop fundamental acting, vocal and dance skills that not only teach the art form but also stimulate self-confidence, creativity and imagination. The workshop is sold out for middle school students, but spots remain for high school students. The students will perform on the main stage of the Macomb Center on July 19 at 7 p.m. and July 20 at 1 p.m., with tickets sold through the box office.

Cost: $450

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Show Choir Workshop: July 28 - Aug. 3

Grades seven – 12

The Show Choir Workshop allows students to put their singing and dancing skills together in a review of popular musical numbers. During this weeklong workshop, students will learn about vocal technique, song interpretation and dance from professional choreographers and vocal coaches. The workshop culminates with a final performance at 7:30 p.m. on the Macomb Center’s main stage on the final day.

Cost: $275

Schedule: Sunday, July 28, 2 – 5p.m.; July 29 – Aug. 2., 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Saturday August 3, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Youth Chorus Workshop: Aug. 19 - 23

Grades two – six

The Youth Chorus Workshop is designed to help cultivate musical skills, build confidence and foster self-esteem while developing an understanding and love of the art of music.

Cost: $135

Schedule: Grades two - four, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.; Grades five and six, 11:15 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
