Macomb Community College hosting information session on Michigan Apprenticeship Program Plus (MAP+)
Tuition-free program leads to earning 13 college credits and an Industrial Readiness Certificate in one semester
Macomb Community College will host an information session on the Michigan Apprenticeship Program Plus (MAP+) on Nov. 11, 5 p.m., in T Building, Room 191 on the college’s South Campus in Warren. MAP+ is an initiative designed to help individuals develop foundational skills to enter either a construction or manufacturing career or job.
“MAP+ is an exciting, no-cost on-ramp to great careers in manufacturing and construction. In one semester students earn college credit, get hands-on training in the skills employers need right now and learn what it takes to land a job and keep it,” said Mark Jewett, associate dean, Engineering and Advanced Technology. “At the end of the program, they meet with local employers who are ready to hire. It’s a terrific opportunity for high school seniors planning their next step or adults looking for a career change.”
Students in the MAP+ program learn foundational skills necessary for a career in advanced manufacturing or construction. Participants complete technical coursework alongside career readiness seminars covering topics such as time management, critical thinking, resume development and interview skills. At the end of the semester, MAP+ hosts an employer networking event during which local employers interview MAP+ students for entry level skilled trade jobs. There are 22 spots available in each cohort.
The information session will provide details on MAP+ courses as well as instructions for the application process.
Interested applicants must submit a completed MAP+ application along with a high school or college transcript, SAT scores or ACT WorkKeys scores. If an applicant does not have a previously completed assessment, a no-cost WorkKeys assessment will be arranged after receipt of a completed application. Submissions for the winter 2027 semester are due by Nov. 20.
Those unable to attend the information session can contact MAP+ at map_plus@macomb.edu for program details and an application.
