Macomb Community College receives Michigan Apprenticeship Readiness Certification (MARC) partner recognition
Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity recognizes Macomb’s healthcare pre-apprenticeship program
Macomb Community College received a Michigan Apprenticeship Readiness Certification (MARC) from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, Employment and Training, Workforce Development State Apprenticeship Expansion team, for its leadership and commitment to preparing students for registered apprenticeship opportunities in the healthcare sector through its pre-apprenticeship program. The program helps students build essential soft skills such as teamwork and problem solving, gain confidence and become career-ready before entering an apprenticeship.
“Macomb’s pre-apprenticeship program was designed to foster interest and participation in apprenticeship while helping students develop the skills that local employers want to see in their apprentices as well as career professionals,” said Narine Mirijanian, dean, Health and Public Services. “Macomb is pleased that our program is positioning our students for success and addressing local healthcare employer needs.”
Since the start of the program in 2025, 20 students have received a healthcare readiness certificate, with 15 pre-apprentices earning a Michigan Apprenticeship Readiness Certificate 1. Through Macomb, 156 individuals have been hired as apprentices by local employers in a wide range of healthcare fields such as dental assisting, medical assisting, registered behavior technician and nursing assistant.
The grant-funded pre-apprenticeship program is available at no cost to eligible students. To learn more about Macomb’s healthcare pre-apprenticeship program, call 586.226.4804 or email hcapprentice@macomb.edu.
