Macomb Community College hosts Innovate & Build: Manufacturing & Design Pathways for high school students and their families
Event showcases possibilities in manufacturing and design careers
High school students and their families are invited to Innovate & Build: Manufacturing & Design Pathways on Oct. 15, 5:30-8:30 p.m., K Building, Macomb Community College South Campus, Warren. The free event brings together industry representatives, educational partners and workforce development resources to help attendees learn about careers in manufacturing and design.
Now in its third year, Innovate & Build was created as a follow-up to Manufacturing Week, during which students visit manufacturing companies throughout Macomb County to experience the reality and future of modern manufacturing careers. This year, more than 73 companies are participating in Macomb County Manufacturing Week activities.
“Whether you’re interested in manufacturing, helping your child explore career options or looking to start over in a new field, this event is a great way to get started,” said Donald Hutchison, dean, Engineering and Advanced Technology, Macomb Community College. “There is no wrong pathway. Innovate & Build showcases different ways to pursue a career in manufacturing and introduces attendees to resources they may not know are available.”
The event will feature a panel discussion with industry professionals, an opportunity to network with local employers and connect with key college resource areas and industry representatives. Vikki Gordon, apprenticeship coordinator at Macomb Community College, will also discuss apprenticeship opportunities, available resources and pathways into skilled trades. Tours of the college's 130,000-square-foot, state-of- the-art Skilled Trades and Advanced Technology Center will also be available.
Dinner, hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be provided. Attendees can participate in drawings for prizes, including a Nintendo Switch 2, Beats Solo 4 headphones and an AI robot dog.
Innovate & Build is presented in partnership with the Macomb Intermediate School District, Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development, and Macomb County Manufacturing Day Committee. Registration is free and available through the Macomb Community College events calendar at events.macomb.edu.
