Macomb Community College to host Give Kids a Smile Day, providing those ages 3-18 with free preventive dental services
On Saturday, Feb. 21, from 8 a.m. to noon, Macomb Community College will be providing free preventive dental services for children ages 3-18 at the college’s Dental Hygiene Clinic (27956 College Park Drive, Warren, MI 48088). Services available will include:
- Dental Exams
- Cleanings
- X-rays
- Sealants
Registration is available by emailing dental@macomb.edu. There will also be a number of fun activities for children, including a balloon artist.
“Our goal is to reach underserved families, such as children who may not have dental insurance or whose families can’t afford certain services,” said Wendi Sparks, associate dean, Dental Sciences, Macomb Community College. “Access to care is essential, and we want the community to know that we are here to help.”
Give Kids a Smile Day is supported by a $4,000 grant from the 2026 Michigan Dental Association’s (MDA) Public Relations Grant Program. The grant was awarded to the Macomb District Dental Society, which is partnering with Macomb Community College to bring this opportunity to the community.
Dr. Christopher Gorecki, who is a member of the college’s Dental Hygiene Program Advisory Board and the MDA’s board, helped facilitate the grant for the college along with his wife and fellow dentist, Dr. Michele Tulak-Gorecki. Both will volunteer at the event, providing hands-on support and dental care. They join college volunteers including dental hygiene students, dental assisting students, faculty, dentists, adjunct faculty and administrative staff.
The college hosted Give Kids a Smile Day for the first time last year, providing 61 free dental services to ten children. Sparks says the hope for this year is to significantly expand awareness of the opportunity for families to access these free, vital preventive dental services for their children.
“Give Kids A Smile Day is a welcoming, fun and supportive event designed to make children feel comfortable while receiving dental care,” said Sparks. “Families can expect a positive experience where their child’s oral health is the priority, delivered by caring faculty, dental science students and supervising dentist volunteers in a friendly environment. Our goal is to remove barriers to care while helping children build healthy, confident smiles.”
Macomb Community College’s dental clinic services individuals of all ages in the community, offering quality dental services at low cost, helping support those who are underserved or underinsured. Read more about services offered here.
