Is your goal to teach, compose, perform or simply better understand and enjoy the music that you hear? Have you been taking lessons for years or just starting out? Macomb’s Music program has something for anyone with an interest in music. Private, weekly voice and instrument lessons are offered for all skill levels and performing opportunities are available with five instrumental and vocal ensembles, two of which provide college credit.  If you are a career-minded musician or singer, the Music Performance Certificate combines classroom instruction with onstage experience and prepares you for some music-related careers, as well as for transfer to a bachelor’s degree program.

College Performance Opportunities

Jazz Band:  Offers students the opportunity to perform in a “Big Band,” playing jazz from the 20s, 30s and swing era, as well as Latin and contemporary. Open to all students by audition and provides college credit. 

Concert Band: For student musicians interested in advancing their skills through practice and performance with a concert band

Orchestra: For student musicians interested in advancing their skills through practice and performance with an orchestra.

Concert Choir: A college-level choir that performs a repertoire of sacred and secular masterpieces. Open to all students and provides college credit.

Macombers: A choreographed show choir that offers scholarships to student performers. Auditions held each spring.

Transfer Pathways

Credits earned in Macomb’s Music Program transfer to many colleges and universities in Michigan and may be applied toward a bachelor’s degree in music. Add this additional sentence to the first: If you intend to transfer and pursue a bachelor’s degree, speak to a counselor or academic advisor as soon as possible after you have applied to Macomb to plan the best pathway.
