Canadian Students

Whether or not you intend to cross the border every day or live in the U.S. as an F-1 student while you pursue your academic goals at Macomb, we are here to help you.

If you are moving to the United States

If you plan on moving to the U.S. while you study, contact the International Student Services Office (ISSO) at f1student@macomb.edu to make an appointment to discuss the process. You will need to follow the instructions for Student Still in Home Country. Please note that you can go to the U.S. side of the Canadian/U.S. border for processing instead of an embassy.

If you are commuting from Ontario

If you plan to commute every day, the requirements are slightly different.

  • Contact f1student@macomb.edu for detailed instructions
  • Complete forms on the Commuting Canadian Students checklist
  • If you are going to study part time, the ISSO will prepare an I-20 for the current semester.
  • If you are going to study full time, the ISSO will prepare an I-20 for the estimated length of your associate degree program.
  • Instead of going to the embassy in Canada, students may go to the U.S. side of the Canadian/U.S. border for processing. (Must have I-20 and proof of paying the I-901 fee).
