Student Maximizes Transfer with Macomb’s Partner School

When Eddie Sheen started at Macomb, he was unsure what program he wanted to study. He knew that he liked working with computers, so he enrolled in Information Technology (IT) courses.
Joining Macomb’s Cybersecurity Club changed the course of Eddie’s academic journey. There, he discovered options that would lead to two degrees. Now, Eddie, who recently earned his associate degree, is attending Walsh College to earn his bachelor's degree.
“I saw there was a clear path for cybersecurity. (Walsh College has) a very good transfer agreement with Macomb,” Eddie said.
How transfer agreements work
Transfer agreements, also known as articulation agreements, make it easier for students to take the credits they’ve earned at one college with them when they transfer to another. These agreements outline which courses transfer and how those credits apply toward a student’s degree.
For example, ITIA 1200, a three-credit cybersecurity course at Macomb, is equivalent to a three-credit cybersecurity course at Walsh College. Because of this established transfer agreement, Eddie can bring those credits, and many others, with him as he continues his education at Walsh.
“I want to get as many credits as I can at Macomb just because financially it's such a good option,” Eddie said.
Transfer support through Macomb’s University Center
Beyond the financial savings, Eddie found something just as valuable at Macomb: the confidence to take the next step toward his future. Through the resources available at Macomb’s University Center, located on center campus, Eddie had the support he needed to make transferring to Walsh feel less overwhelming and more achievable.
Eddie was able to create a personalized transfer plan that mapped out the classes he needed and kept him on track toward his degree. He could even take classes at Macomb and Walsh simultaneously, creating a seamless transition between the two institutions.
For Eddie, the experience transformed what could have been a stressful transition into an exciting step forward. “It was just a very neat bridge between the two,” he said.
