Engineering is a field built on strong foundations, both academically and professionally. If you plan to earn a bachelor’s degree in engineering, where you build that foundation matters.
At Macomb, our program will give you the groundwork for long-term success. You’ll be prepared academically, but you’ll also build the confidence you need to successfully transfer to a four-year engineering program and thrive once you get there.
Advantages of starting at Macomb
Our pre-engineering curriculum is carefully designed so you can transition smoothly into your next level of study with confidence, momentum and a solid academic foundation.
You’ll complete the foundational math and science courses required for a four-year engineering program, including calculus, physics, chemistry, linear algebra and introductory engineering concepts.
You’ll benefit from our smaller class sizes, allowing you a personal connection with faculty and individualized academic support.
Cost is another important factor. Macomb offers exceptional value, allowing you to complete foundational coursework at a significantly lower cost than at a four-year school.
Exploring a multidisciplinary field
Many students know they want to pursue engineering but aren’t yet certain which specialization fits them best. Engineering encompasses several disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, chemical, civil or computer engineering.
Our program allows students to explore those options while completing essential coursework in math, science and engineering fundamentals, helping them make informed decisions before committing to a specific path.
A clear, structured transfer path
Our program focuses on transfer readiness and is aligned with the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA). The MTA ensures that the general education courses taken at Macomb are accepted by a four-year school when you transfer.
Beyond general education courses, our pre-engineering program emphasizes transferable math and science courses that engineering programs expect students to complete early. The result is a program intentionally structured to reduce credit loss, clarify academic expectations and position you for success at the next level.
While our program isn’t designed as a final degree, it is a steppingstone toward a bachelor’s degree in engineering, providing all of the fundamentals needed to be successful down the road.
