Family Information Night offered for prospective dual enrollment students at Macomb Community College
High school students and parents can learn the benefits of the dual enrollment
Macomb Community College is holding a Dual Enrollment Family Information Night on Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at South Campus in Warren for high school students and their parents to learn about the benefits of dual enrollment. Students in ninth grade or higher may qualify to earn college credit at no cost while still attending high school.
“Dual enrollment is the perfect opportunity for high school students to start on a higher education path and earn college credit while having the support from both their high school and the college,” said Michael Baysdell, director, K-12 Relations, Macomb Community College. “Dual enrollment gives high school students a chance to explore a field they may be interested in pursuing.”
The benefits of dual enrollment include enhancing college readiness, saving money on tuition and accelerating degree completion. Research has shown that students who participate in dual enrollment are more likely to enroll in college, maintain higher GPAs and complete their degrees. Of the students who are dual enrolled at Macomb, 80% either continue at the college after high school graduation or transfer to a university. Additionally, 44% of dual enrolled students are continuing on for an associate degree at Macomb.
At the information night, Macomb representatives will provide details of classes available to dual enrolled students, share scholarship and financial aid options, and review the Michigan Transfer Agreement, which is designed to facilitate the transfer 30 general education credits from a community college in the state to participating four-year colleges and universities.
