Healthcare apprenticeships for Macomb students.
Macomb Community College will offer virtual open houses to provide information about the college’s healthcare pre-apprenticeship program as well as apprenticeships available with employer partners in the healthcare field.

Attendees have the opportunity to network with potential employers

This fall, Macomb Community College will offer virtual open houses to provide information about the college’s healthcare pre-apprenticeship program as well as apprenticeships available with employer partners in the healthcare field.

Through pre-apprenticeships, students can start to develop core professional skills, participate in job shadowing and earn a readiness certificate. Apprenticeships offer students the opportunity to earn while they learn. They gain firsthand experience and are immersed in the field while completing a certificate or degree, giving them an advantage in the workforce. According to the Michigan Health Council, nearly all healthcare occupations are projected to face a workforce shortage by 2035.

“Students who enter into healthcare apprenticeships through Macomb gain a unique perspective immersed in the workforce from the onset of their education, receive one-on-one mentorship and are better positioned for success,” said Amy Jury, director, Apprentice and Business Partnerships, Health and Public Service. “With 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training, 144 hours of classroom work and a college credential in their field, program graduates enter the workforce with a significant edge.”

Macomb’s healthcare apprenticeship programs include certified medical reimbursement specialist, certified nursing assistant, dental assisting, laboratory assistant, medical assistant, pharmacy technician, phlebotomist and registered behavioral technician.

The open houses include an overview of apprenticeship requirements, upcoming openings and a chance to network with potential employers that partner with Macomb. They will be offered:

  • Sept. 10, 5–6:30 p.m.
  • Oct. 8, 5–6:30 p.m.
  • Nov. 5, 5–6:30 p.m.
  • Dec. 3, 5–6:30 p.m.
