Macomb Community College announces class formats for fall semester, which begins Aug. 17

– Tuesday, May 19, 2020 12:00AM

Classes will be online for at least the first three weeks of the semester

To ensure the health and safety of its students, faculty and staff, when Macomb Community College’s fall semester begins on Aug. 17, all classes will be conducted online at least through Labor Day. The college will continue closely monitoring the impact of COVID-19 and will only begin transitioning to in-person instruction once it is considered to be safe.

For the fall semester, Macomb will be offering courses in three formats: hybrid, online and web enhanced. Hybrid courses are a combination of virtual classroom and face-to-face instruction in a traditional classroom. Online classes take place entirely in virtual classrooms. In the web-enhanced courses, which are primarily in the health and occupational areas, all teaching and learning occurs in the traditional classroom, employing online educational tools to support instruction.

“Macomb Community College is committed to providing the high-quality learning experiences necessary to keep our students moving forward during these challenging times and to protecting the safety and health of our students, faculty and staff,” said James O. Sawyer IV, president, Macomb Community College. “We are hopeful that the incidence of COVID-19 infection will continue its downward trajectory and allow us to safely return to traditional classroom settings. However, we also recognize that we are navigating through fluid circumstances. We structured our fall semester course offerings to ensure that we can seamlessly transition between online and on-ground instruction while preserving the quality and integrity of our courses.”

Registration for the fall semester begins on July 6 for current Macomb students, with registration for new students beginning July 13. For more information about attending Macomb this fall, click here.
