Academies provide hands-on exploration of careers for high school students

Registration is open for Macomb Community College’s ten summer career academies, which offer high-school students an opportunity for hands-on exploration of careers guided by professionals in those fields.  The first sessions begin June 20.

Each of the academies provides interactive experiences for students who are at least 14 years old (16 for the law enforcement and fire service academies).  New this year is Writing the Future, in which students will work with published, professional writers to learn about writing poetry, writing for money (grants, scholarships, etc.) and writing for social media.

“Macomb’s career academies help young people get a good sense of whether a particular career path is something that suits his or her strengths and interests,” said Ed Stanton, director of admissions and outreach at Macomb. “They explore career options by doing, as well as interacting with people working in those fields, which provides a realistic taste of what it would be like to actually do that kind of work.”
