Registration opens for Robotics, Engineering and Technology Days 2015 at Macomb Community College

Half-day programs on Dec. 2-3 for students in grades 6-12 introduce STEM careers through hands-on activities

Registration is now available through Nov. 11 for school groups interested in participating in Macomb Community College’s Robotics, Engineering and Technology (RET) Days 2015, which will be held Dec. 2-3 at the Sports & Expo Center (P Building) on the college’s South Campus in Warren.  RET Days is a free event designed to introduce students in grades 6-12 to career possibilities  in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields through access to experts in these areas and engaging, hands-on demonstrations.

School groups can sign up for half-day sessions on either Wednesday, Dec. 2, or Thursday, Dec. 3, at 8:30 – 11 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Limited funds are available for travel reimbursement, so it is important to indicate in the registration process whether your group’s attendance is based on availability of reimbursement. During the half-day sessions, students will have the chance to:

  • Check out the latest trends in automotive technology
  • Talk with experts in the fields of engineering and robotics
  • Interact with underwater remotely operated vehicles
  • Experience 3D printing and automotive clay modeling
  • Examine renewable energy technologies such as biofuels and a student-designed solar trike
  • Discover electric vehicles and participate in an electric vehicle race
  • Explore the world of welding through use of a virtual welder
  • Engage with technology used in design and media arts
  • Program a robot and “battle” against other students’ robots

RET Days is held in conjunction with the Macomb Intermediate School District, Macomb Community College’s Center for Advanced Automotive Technology and the National Science Foundation.
