The Macomb Community College Foundation’s Comedy & Cocktails fundraising gala, held Sept. 17 at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts, attracted 175 attendees and raised $41,000 to support the college’s arts and cultural programs.

The event, presented by First State Bank, featured a private performance by The Second City touring company, cocktails, appetizers, a silent auction and a raffle. The money raised will help sustain the robust programming offered through the Macomb Center and Lorenzo Cultural Center.

“Quality arts and cultural opportunities are an important aspect of Macomb’s mission of education, enrichment and economic development,” said James Jacobs, president, Macomb Community College. “The college’s cultural arts programing not only entertains, but provides meaningful enrichment and educational experiences to community members of all ages and backgrounds while contributing to Macomb County’s quality of life.”

The Macomb Center presents high-quality professional performances, offers educational outreach in the arts and provides a performance venue for community-based arts organizations, hosting more than 100,000 annually. The Lorenzo Cultural Center explores the influences and experiences that shape our community’s heritage, creating interactive learning opportunities for all ages, and has drawn more than 130,000 visitors since its opening in 2006.
