Macomb Community College professor named one of 15 “Top Veterinary Technician Professors” nationwide

Lori Renda-Francis, Macomb Community College professor and director of Macomb’s veterinary technician program, has been named one of 15 “Top Veterinary Techniciany Professors” nationwide by, a blog generated by Sechel Ventures that focuses on educational programs.

Criteria used to rank veterinary technicain professors from all 220 U.S. programs includes those who are actively teaching, are highly credentialed, have professional affiliations or memberships, maintain leadership roles and pursue outreach opportunities throughout their community.

“I am very grateful to be acknowledged for something that I love doing so much and that I get so much satisfaction from,” said, Renda-Francis, who holds a Ph.D. in organizational management and is a licensed veterinary technician.  “Macomb Community College has one of the top veterinary technician programs in the country, and this award reflects the commitment and dedication of our entire veterinary technician team.”

Renda-Francis has worked in Macomb’s vet tech program for 27 years and became the program director in 1999.  She currently serves on the board of the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators and is a former president of both the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America and the Michigan Association of Veterinary Technicians.

Macomb’s veterinary technician program prepares students to assist with the technical aspects of veterinary practices and animal-related fields, including medical laboratory procedures, anesthesia, radiology and surgical assistance.  The college’s veterinary technician program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and is one of only three in the country accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. The program encourages community outreach, and each year, Macomb’s vet tech instructors and students host People, Pets and Vets, a hands-on, interactive educational program designed for children of all ages and draws approximately 500 participants.
