What is a Builder’s Pre-License Certificate?  

Obtaining a Builder’s Pre-License Certificate is the first step toward becoming a licensed builder in Michigan.  The Builder’s Pre-License Program is a state-mandated requirement for taking the Michigan Builders License exam.  The certificate of completion from Macomb after completing segments 1 & 2 ensures that the exam candidate has mastered the skills and knowledge necessary to oversee the quality construction of buildings from foundation to roof.      

The Builder’s Pre-License Certificate Program at Macomb

In Macomb’s Builder’s pre-License Certificate Program, you will learn about business management, estimating, design and building science, contracts, risk management and project management. You will be introduced to Michigan Residential and Construction Safety Standards, as well as management, marketing and sales techniques.

What is a Continuing Education Program?

Continuing Education programs are open enrollment (registration link here), which means you do not have to fill out an application to Macomb Community College. Continuing Education programs are not eligible for financial aid or for academic credit toward an associate degree or related certificate. 

Builder’s Pre-License Courses at Macomb

In the Builder’s Pre-License Certificate Program at Macomb, you will take the following courses:

  • Builder’s Pre-License Training Segment 1
  • Builder’s Pre-License Training Segment 2

Career Opportunities with a Builder’s Pre-License Certificate

With a Builder’s Pre-License Certificate, you will be qualified to take the Michigan Builders License exam, passage of which is required to become a licensed builder in Michigan.
