The Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) has chosen the Macomb Criminal Justice Training Center to be a provider for Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) Certification.

There are two legal avenues that all retired Michigan law enforcement officers make take in order to legally carry firearms. The first is the Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL). The second is through certification under LEOSA, which may be gained through MCOLES or from the agency that the officer retired from, provided that the agency is willing to participate. Note: MCOLES has no oversight of the retirees' former agency.

If you are interested in obtaining LEOSA certification through MCOLES, you must first apply online at the MCOLES website. After you have completed the application process and been approved, you will contact the Macomb Criminal Justice Training Center to complete the training/ assessment requirements. Once you have received your approved application, call 586.498.4065 or email
