COVID-19 Update

March 23, 2020 | 1:30pm

Dear Students,

Here we go writing history. Today, Governor Whitmer issued a “stay home” executive order that will go into effect at midnight and run through Monday, April 13. Today, we are also opening wide the virtual doors of the college to students in the on-ground classes we paused due to the local spread of COVID-19.

This is the best way we can offer you the opportunity to continue your academic progress, protect your health – as well as that of the college’s faculty and staff – while doing our part to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

We recognize that some of you did not intend to take online classes and may be uncomfortable. We also have faculty who at the college’s request have transitioned to a virtual classroom format. We acknowledge that, while this may not be perfect, we can keep moving forward together with patience, communication and a commitment to your education.

Beyond faculty, the college’s entire range of student services is available to support you. Go to the college’s coronavirus page and click on the Student Support Resources link on the left-hand side of the page for a listing of services and contact information.

You, the college’s students, come from a wide variety of backgrounds, representing all walks and all stages of life. However, you also hold in common key attributes: commitment, perseverance and capacity to envision a better future. With your strength and resilience, I know we can navigate these uncertain times.

We recognize that you’re dealing with a great deal of anxiety and stress. Remember that we’re here to help you successfully finish the semester. We appreciate your flexibility as we weather the unknown together.
