COVID-19 Update

March 19, 2020 | 3:18pm

Dear Students -

I know that the significant and abrupt changes we have had to make in response to the coronavirus outbreak have been jarring. It is important you understand that we've acted with your health and well-being as our utmost priority. But also please know that, at the same time, we are doing everything we can to keep your educational progress on track.

We continue to monitor and adapt as the ramifications from the pandemic evolve. Faculty and staff are working diligently to resume on Monday the classes we paused. More information about this, as well as other current college updates and reminders follow:

  • On Monday, March 23, online instruction for converted face-to-face classes and virtual student services will commence as planned. Some classes are resuming before March 23, and these faculty are directly contacting their students regarding their re-start date. These classes and services will continue to be offered in an online and virtual format through the end of the semester.
  • The college's facilities are closed to students and the public through April 5, with the date subject to change in response to evolving circumstances. Few staff remain on campus. Most work is being conducted remotely.
  • A small number of on-campus lab classes may resume. We are assessing our ability to provide lab experiences that meet current safety requirements to prevent community spread and exposure to surfaces that can carry the coronavirus. Details on which labs will run and when will be directly communicated to students in those courses.
  • The college's current online classes are continuing as originally scheduled.
  • The bookstore on Center Campus will close at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 20. Students may continue to order their books online, which will be shipped to their home at no charge.
  • We are providing temporary "Drive up WiFi" locations in college parking lots on both South and Center campuses. Go to the college's coronavirus page and click on the Student Support Services link on the left-hand side of the page for more information and maps.
  • Registration for both our credit and noncredit classes for spring/summer is being rescheduled to begin on Monday, April 6. At this time, the start date for the spring/summer semester remains May 18.
  • In addition to the coronavirus page on the college's website, you can reference updated information on a dedicated section of the student portal: COVID-19 Student Resources and Information for Classes.

If you have specific questions that need to be addressed, reach out directly to faculty and staff through email or phone. However, please recognize that the volume of questions currently being handled is high and is slowing response times.

We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we work through these challenges together.
