Registration now open for Macomb Community College’s summer MORE semester beginning July 21

The Macomb Organization for Retiree Enrichment (MORE), a lifelong learning initiative from Macomb Community College, will offer a short summer session beginning July 21 through August 7, offering five classes and five local excursions.

“Summer is a great time to get out and explore the world around you,” said William Wood, director, Cultural Affairs and Community Engagement, Macomb Community College. “The combination of summer classes and local excursions gives our members the opportunity to explore new areas of interest and immerse themselves in what our area has to offer.”

Each course is taught by subject matter experts and lasts approximately two hours with up to 30 minutes reserved for a question-and-answer period. MORE members can choose from two class packages: three classes and/or excursions for $27 or five classes and/or excursions for $45. There are additional fees for three of the excursions.

The MORE summer semester includes:

  • Al Kaline’s Last Bat Boy: Presenter Dennis Clotworthy recalls his days as a bat boy with the Detroit Tigers from 1972 through 1975, including the final season of Al Kaline’s Hall of Fame career.
  • Isle Royale: Island Wilderness: Visit the park’s remote location, scenery and wildlife through pictures and stories told by former backcountry ranger and current Moosewatch trip leader Erin Parker.
  • Wine Tasting Event at Filipo Marc Winery: The visit to the Clinton Township winery includes a sampling of 12 wines along with a charcuterie board of cheeses, sausages and chocolates while instructor Gerald Giacona presents the history of wine and wine making. Additional fee for this excursion.
  • Let’s Play Pickleball: Learn the fundamentals of this popular sport from John Wilson, a member of the USA Pickleball Association and a pickleball ambassador for Macomb County. Wilson teaches pickleball at both the Shelby Township Activities Center and the Macomb Township Recreation Center.

All courses will be held at the Lorenzo Cultural Center on the Center Campus of Macomb Community College in Clinton Township at 44575 Garfield Road. Check the course catalog for excursion details.
