Parents and teens can learn about high-demand STEAM job opportunities from industry leaders

Parents and teens grades six through 12 can learn about high-demand career opportunities in auto design, manufacturing, robotics and technology at Explore Careers in Manufacturing and Technology, Thursday, Dec. 1, 5:30 – 8 p.m. at Macomb Community College. This free event combines informative presentations giving participants an insider’s look at career opportunities along with hands-on exhibits and activities, and a mini car show.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore interactive displays in a variety of areas including auto design, robotics, clay modeling, product design, and traffic light simulation and programming. A series of Tech Talk presentations will provide information on STEAM career fields including the employment outlook in Macomb County, getting into an apprenticeship, and STEAM career options with the U.S. Department of Justice. Area employers will also be on hand to share the skills required for STEAM careers.

This evening event complements the college’s annual Auto STEAM Days, which are being held during the day on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 and will draw approximately 2,000 Detroit-area middle and high school students.

Explore Careers in Manufacturing and Technology is presented by Macomb Community College in conjunction with the Manufacturing Day committee from the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development and the Macomb Intermediate School District. It is made possible through support from the Foren Family Foundation and primary event sponsor Magna.

The event will be held at the Sports and Expo Center on Macomb’s South Campus in Warren. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with presentations 6 -8 p.m. Registration is suggested at www.macomb.edu/MFGevening, but walk-ins are welcome.

Free concessions will be available while supplies last. Attendees can enter a drawing to win 1 of 2 gaming laptops.
