Macomb Community College earns reaccreditation from the Higher Learning Commission

– Monday, December 19, 2016 12:00AM

Accredited since 1970, Macomb Community College has been reaccredited for another full ten-year cycle by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. HLC provides institutional accreditation to degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in 19 states in the North Central region of the country.

Accreditation is a tool to monitor, assess and evaluate the standards and quality of education a college provides and is important for Macomb’s students.  It confirms that they are attending an institution that provides a high quality of education, allows them access to federal financial aid and signals to employers that Macomb graduates have been held to the highest standards.

“It is gratifying to come through this process without any findings requiring corrective action and full ten-year accreditation,” said Dr. James Sawyer, provost and senior vice president, Learning Unit, Macomb Community College.  “It reflects the commitment and quality of Macomb’s faculty and staff, as well as the community’s support of the college.  In fact, our HLC reviewers also noted the active feedback and strong support from students and community members in the accreditation process.”
