Macomb Community College is celebrating the accomplishments of those graduates completing degree requirements at the end of the winter 2015 semester, to which it is awarding more than 1,400 associate degrees at its 93rd commencement on Friday, May 15, 7 p.m., at the Sports & Expo Center on its South Campus in Warren.

The commencement speaker and recipient of the Most Distinguished Graduate award is Monica Bergler, of Shelby Township, who is receiving an associate of applied science in media and communication arts. Earning this degree is fulfilling a childhood dream for Bergler, who had previously earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration.

“I’ve already had a successful career in the computer field, but I didn’t enjoy it,” Bergler said. “I had attended Macomb when I was studying the computer field, and I really liked the small classrooms. That, combined with the excellent reputation of Macomb’s media arts programs prompted me to pursue this degree.”

Bergler plans to work as a freelance graphic artist.
