The Campus Community Care Team (C3Team) is committed to providing a coordinated, caring response to situations and behaviors that have the potential to impede success and/or threaten the safety of the campus and learning environment. We provide helpful information and support navigating campus and community resources to support student well-being and success. Initially known as the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), the name was changed in 2023 to the Campus Community Care Team. This transition aligns with the nationwide emphasis on using elements of care as a foundation for behavioral intervention and related educational efforts.

PURPOSE: Campus Community Care Team is a multidisciplinary team which is committed to collaboratively and proactively working with students to discover their goals and assess the barriers toward completion of those goals, connect students to resources at the college and in the community to mitigate risks and promote safety and holistic wellbeing, and provide the support and intervention needed to empower students to successfully advance in their education.
MISSION: The Team will provide a coordinated referral system, a detailed behavioral assessment process, an internal communications structure, an intentional intervention strategy and a comprehensive monitoring system to allow for follow-up and support.
VISION: The mission of Macomb Community College is to “Transform lives and communities through the power of education, enrichment, and economic development.” The vision of the Campus Community Care Team is to support students who may experience barriers to the transformative power of education.
If you encounter a student at Macomb exhibiting any of the following behaviors, please fill out the Care Concern Referral as soon as possible:
- Bizarre/Disjointed Thoughts
- Depression/Unexplained Crying
- Disruptive Classroom Behavior
- Disruptive Behavior Outside of the Classroom
- Disturbing Written or Verbal Communication
- Excessive Anxiety/Heightened Emotional Distress
- Hostile, Aggressive or Intimidating Remarks or Behaviors
- Inappropriate Display of Anger/Negative Emotions
- Marked Change in Behavior, Appearance or Academic Performance
- Self-Destructive Behavior (Cutting, Burning, etc.)
- Threatening or Attempting Suicide
After a referral is submitted:
- Referral enters a secure database
- An automated notification is sent to the C3Team members
- Referral is reviewed by the C3Team
- Referrer may be contacted for further information
- Team determines risk level of behavior using a standardized risk rubric and will determine appropriate intervention recommendations and coordination. The Team links students to wellness or other supportive services while balancing the individual's rights with the rights of all others for safety.
- Referrer may or may not be informed of the results of their Referral.
When to Call College Police
In some instances, immediate intervention by College Police is necessary. If you encounter a student or other individual meeting any of the following criteria, call College Police immediately at 911 on a college phone or 586.445.7135 on a cell phone:
- Poses a real or perceived immediate threat of physical violence to themselves or others
- Disoriented, acting strangely or disrupting the environment
- Appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Reports that they have been sexually attacked
- Is involved in a criminal activity
