What is Motion Design?

Motion Design combines typography, graphics, images and sound to tell stories, convey ideas and simplify complex messages. Utilizing computer-generated imagery, Motion Design is an evolving field with a wide range of applications, including film, video, electronic games, advertising, web, interactive media and the list goes on. 

Macomb’s Motion Design Program

In Macomb’s Motion Design Program, you will acquire or build upon foundational skills that include traditional and digital drawing, photography, still and animated design, image manipulation, audio and video manipulation and color theory.  The program is for those new to the field and those seeking career advancement, with an emphasis on providing diverse skills that can be used worldwide across the media arts spectrum.       

Courses in Macomb’s Motion Design Program

In the Motion Design Program at Macomb, you will take a variety of courses specific to your selected major, including:

  • Illustration Fundamentals
  • Digital Layout: Adobe
  • Introduction to and Advanced Photoshop
  • Introduction to Photography
  • Design 1
  • Previsualization
  • Digital Illustration
  • Typography
  • Introduction to Motion Graphics
  • Compositing and 2D Animatics
  • Advanced After Effects
  • Portfolio Development

Career Opportunities with an Associate of Applied Science Degree or Certificate in Motion Design

With an Associate of Applied Science Degree or Certificate in Media and Communication Arts – Motion Design, you will be qualified for positions that include motion design artist, instructional designer, visual designer, graphic designer and multimedia designer.

The credits earned in Macomb’s Media & Communications Arts – Motion Design Program will transfer to many colleges and universities in Michigan.
