Jewelry Trades Certificate Program

A Continuing Education Program

Beautiful design makes a beautiful life.
- Charles Lewis Tiffany, Founder of the Iconic Jewelry Store

What are the Jewelry Trades?

Using wire, pliers, polishing stones and soldering irons, Daniel Swarovski, Paloma Picasso and David Yurman learned how to turn precious metal, crystals and gemstones into stunning and original pieces of jewelry, establishing themselves as trendsetters in the field.  Jewelry making is both art and craft.  It requires creative inspiration and skillful labor, sketch pad and eye goggles, a painter’s eye and a welder’s precision.

The Jewelry Trades Certificate Program at Macomb

In Macomb’s Jewelry Trades Certificate Program, you will be introduced to the tools used in jewelry making, safety issues, basic jewelry metalsmithing and stone setting practices. You will learn about evaluating precious metals, the history and nature of gemstones, diamond mining, cutting and polishing gemstones, and how to transform a rough crystal into a faceted stone suitable for setting.  Classes may be taken individually or to earn a certificate of completion.
