Sold-out event raises $80,000 for college arts and cultural programming

Macomb Community College Foundation’s sixth annual Comedy & Cocktails, held Friday, Oct. 18, raised more than $80,000 to support the college’s arts and cultural programming. This is a 60% increase over the previous year, representing the highest ever attendance for the fundraiser, with 350 guests, as well as the most this event has raised since its inception in 2014.

“It’s this type of outpouring of community support that makes it possible for us to continue to provide enriching arts and cultural programs that both educate and entertain audiences of all ages,” said James O. Sawyer IV, Ed.D., president, Macomb Community College. “We are thankful for our donors’ generosity and engagement, ensuring meaningful arts and cultural experiences are available to our community.”

Presented by First State Bank, Comedy & Cocktails featured a cocktail reception and silent auction followed by a seated dinner in the Lorenzo Cultural Center. A highlight of the evening was the performance of Scared Scriptless in the Macomb Center for Performing Arts, starring Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood from the comedy show Whose Line is it Anyway. Often referred to as a comedic high-wire act, the duo created humorous ad lib original scenes and songs solely based on audience suggestions.
