Macomb Community College named a 2015 Military Friendly School

– Tuesday, September 30, 2014 12:00AM

Macomb Community College has been named a 2015 Military Friendly School by Victory Media Inc., Coraopolis, Pa., for the sixth consecutive year.  The designation honors U.S. colleges, universities and trade schools judged to “have gone above and beyond to provide transitioning veterans the best possible experience in higher education,” based on a data-driven assessment.

Macomb provides support to the military and veteran communities in a variety of ways. Military- and veteran-focused resources include: a counselor dedicated to the specific needs of veterans, a student veterans organization, scholarships, help with identifying and applying for educational benefits, and veteran-related community events.

“Serving the needs of the veteran community is very important to us,” said Jim Jacobs, president, Macomb Community College.  “Because we respect the sacrifices made by those who serve in uniform, Macomb works hard to meet the needs of the active-duty service members, reservists and veterans on our campuses.”

In its sixth year, the Military Friendly Schools list is based on a complimentary and rigorous quantitative assessment that evaluates each school based on criteria created by Victory Media with the assistance of an independent academic advisory board and graded by an automated research suite. The survey results that comprise the lists are independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media.

The roughly 1,600 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s Military Friendly Schools list are those that exhibit leading practices to support military students.  A searchable online directory is available at

Victory Media is a veteran-owned small business that has been serving the military community since 2001. The company’s Military Friendly lists are published in its G.I. Jobs, Military Spouse and Vetrepreneur media channels.
