What Does a Legal Assistant Do?

A Legal Assistant is a professional member of a legal services delivery team. Also referred to as a Paralegal, Legal Assistants provides a variety of support services to attorneys in a law firm, corporate legal department or other legal setting. While they cannot give legal advice, they can draft contracts and other legal documents, conduct legal research, interview clients and witnesses, and provide assistance at real estate closings.

The Legal Assistant Program at Macomb

In Macomb’s Legal Assistant Program, you will be introduced to a legal assistant’s ethical and professional responsibilities as a member of the legal services delivery team, as well as the purpose and function of discovery and legal pleadings. You will learn how to conduct legal research, prepare legal forms and documents, and conduct and summarize factual investigations, as you become familiar with family law, criminal law, real estate, bankruptcy, court procedures and corporations.
