Law Enforcement

The Law Enforcement program prepares students for entry-level positions in agencies identified within the criminal justice system in the United States. The program also offers opportunities to current practitioners to improve their skills, knowledge and abilities.

The student will develop or improve skills and knowledge of:

  • criminal law;
  • current issues in policing, evidence and criminal procedures and investigation; and
  • other facets of law enforcement.

Since 1971, the Macomb Police Academy has provided basic police training to over 3,500 Michigan police officers. Currently, over 220 Michigan law enforcement agencies have hired Macomb Police Academy graduates.

The Macomb Police Academy provides 18 weeks of MCOLES (Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards) approved basic police training. Highly qualified subject matter experts supply Macomb cadets with instruction that exceeds MCOLES mandates. Macomb cadets have access to the latest law enforcement technology and equipment, including fully equipped late-model training vehicles, firearms, related firearm accessories, radios, and body armor.

The Macomb Police Academy offers academic support and job placement assistance to all cadets.

In addition to Macomb College's Law Enforcement degree program and Police Academy, the Public Service Institute offers Advanced Police Training to municipalities.
