Changing Gears: The Birth of American Industry
The American Industrial Revolution transformed the daily lives of Americans as much as – and perhaps more than – any other single event in U.S. history. From September 21 – November 18, the Lorenzo Cultural Center presents a wide-ranging exploration of the inventions, innovators and impact of the industrial movement nationally as well as locally in Changing Gears: The Birth of American Industry.
Macomb College’s Public Service Institute Offers Series on Enhancing Safety and Security in Places of Worship
Macomb Community College’s Public Service Institute is hosting a series of training sessions focused on increasing safety and security for southeast Michigan worship centers. Introduced in Spring 2012, Understanding Safety and Security in Places of Worship is a one-day seminar followed by a series of additional training sessions covering a variety of topics centered on emergency preparedness and security in a worship setting.
Students Give Early College of Macomb High Marks
While some of her friends are just beginning their freshman year of college and stressing about things like “where’s English 101,” recent high school graduate Jessica Butler, Eastpointe, Mich., is cruising along more than half way to an associate degree as a result of the Early College of Macomb.

Macomb Community College Contributes to Economic Vitality of Macomb County, with Impact of up to $108 Million Annually
Macomb Community College contributes significantly to the economic vitality of Macomb County, providing an impact of up to $108 million annually and a return of up to $3.18 for each tax dollar invested in the college. These findings were among those presented to business and community leaders this morning during an event marking the 50th anniversary of the college’s expansion beyond a local K-12 school district into a countywide educational asset.
Southeast Michigan Defense Industry Strategy Taskforce Launches “Arsenal of Innovation”
A regional collaborative focused on supporting and enhancing the local defense industry is rolling out a new website and marketing materials, including a video, showcasing southeast Michigan’s unique attributes as the “Arsenal of Innovation.” The group, which is composed of representatives spanning business, industry, government, military and education, and the materials are a result of an initiative led by Macomb Community College and funded by a $428,000 grant from the New Economy Initiative for Southeast Michigan.

Macomb Community College engages and inspires younger students through STEM programs and activities
Studies continue to point to a significant gap in competency when K-12 students in the U.S. are compared to their peers in other countries in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Research also indicates the lack of proficiency in STEM education is even greater in Michigan.
