The national, award-winning exhibit, William Thompson, The Forgotten Patriot 1756-1783, which emphasizes Brig. Gen. Thompson's role as leader of the famous Thompson Rifle Battalion, will be featured at the Macomb Cultural Center Sept. 7-30, Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
Direct descendants of Brigadier General William Thompson, Ken Hoover and Dr. William Guy present a collection of authentic artifacts from the French and Indian War through the American Revolution. Primarily a military collection, the exhibit features dozens of authentic firearms, pistols, swords and accoutrements from England, France, Germany and America. Mannequins, documents and extensive labeling bring the exhibit to life. Sections on Native Americans, surveying, entrenching and iron-making are also included. In addition to Thompson's life as an officer in both the French and Indian War and the American Revolution, the display spans his roles as surveyor, judge and politician.
