Macomb Community College’s Center for Continuing Education is offering a new class that gives participants an opportunity to design their own fitness program with the help of a certified athletic trainer while gaining a leg-up on their next athletic competition or charity fundraiser.
Train SMART to Walk, Jog or Run is endorsed by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification and is taught by an athletic trainer certified by the same. Participants will learn about nutrition, strength, flexibility, proper apparel, injury prevention/recognition, and how certain health conditions (diabetes, asthma and hypertension among them) can affect an individual’s ability to exercise. Participants will also be introduced to motivational techniques for adhering to a daily routine and how to properly prepare for a marathon or charity walk or run.
Train SMART to Walk, Jog or Run will be held on Saturdays, May 3 through July 26, from 8 to 11 a.m., at or around Macomb Center’s Campus, Hall and Garfield roads, Clinton Township. Class begins with an hour lecture in H-209 followed by two hours of supervised training at a nearby park. The fee is $295. To register, call 586.498.4000 or 586.226.4800.
