Learn the ins and outs of planning a wedding or event

Macomb Community College’s Center for Continuing Education offers a variety of classes for those interested in launching or advancing in a wedding or event planning career.

The Wedding Planner Certification class, offered in conjunction with The Wedding Planning Institute, covers everything that a prospective wedding planner needs to know to get started, including contracts, etiquette, flowers, industry business practices, music and marketing, as well as coordinating the big day itself. A nationally recognized certificate is awarded to those who successfully complete the class, which is offered both at South Campus and online. The Wedding Planner Certification class will meet on Thursdays, June 3 through Aug. 7, 7 to 9 p.m., at Macomb’s South Campus, or online July 7 through Sept. 17. The fee is $875.

Just added to the center’s Event and Wedding Planning lineup is a Risk Management for the Event Specialist class, which covers contract negotiations, vendor cancellation and damage clauses, types of event insurance, contingency planning for natural or man-made disasters and crisis management. The Risk Management for the Event Specialist class will be held on Mondays, June 2 through Aug. 18, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Macomb’s South Campus. There will also be an additional 10 hours of online instruction. The fee is $259.

Also new is the Destination Weddings – A Successful Event class, which can help both wedding planners and do-it-yourself brides prepare for all aspects of holding a wedding in a foreign country. The Destination Weddings class will meet on Wednesdays, June 4 through Aug. 20, 7 to 9 p.m., at South Campus. There will also be an additional 10 hours of online instruction. The fee is $259.
