The Macomb Cultural Center, Clinton Township, is offering a series of presentations focused on Michigan's waters as a natural resource. Events are free (pre-registration is required) and are part of Great Lakes, Great Stories: Michigan's Maritime Heritage, a three-month-long series of programs exploring the history, romance and legacy of the Great Lakes.
Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2 p.m. - Importance of the Lake St. Clair
Tim Elder, executive director of the Great Lakes Commission provides updates on the work of the organization related to Lake St. Clair. The non-partisan, bi-national compact agency is dedicated to promoting a strong economy, healthy environment and high quality of life for the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence region and its residents.
Thursday, Oct. 25, 10:30 a.m. - What Makes the Great Lakes so Great?
Steve Stewart, co-leader of education for the southeast district of the Michigan Sea Grant program, highlights the importance of the Great Lakes, its marine resources and emerging issues in its stewardship.
Thursday, Oct. 25, 2 p.m. - Our Drinking Water
Doug Martz, chair, Macomb County Water Quality Board and active member of a number of other organizations committed to preserving the integrity of Michigan's water resources, discusses the state of and challenges to the region's drinking water.
Friday, Nov. 9, 2 p.m. - Shared Waters: Michigan's Commitment to Protecting the Great Lakes
Ken DeBeaussaert, director, Office of the Great Lakes, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, highlights local, state, federal and bi-national efforts to address issues associated with the Great Lakes such as invasive species, sewer overflows, habitat protection, clean up of contamination and drinking water protection.
The Macomb Cultural Center, Macomb County's place for discovery, explores the influences and experiences that shape our community's heritage, examining topics from a variety of perspectives and creating interactive opportunities for learning, celebration and entertainment. Located on Macomb Community College's Center Campus, Hall and Garfield roads in Clinton Township, the Macomb Cultural Center is adjacent to the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts.
