Exhibit to Feature Student Art

Macomb Community College’s Center for Continuing Education has teamed up with the Anton Art Center in Mount Clemens to give aspiring artists of all ages the rare opportunity to exhibit their work in a gallery setting.

“I am very excited about this because, once upon a time, I would have never guessed that I would be brave enough to do this,” said Charlene Dann, a St. Clair Shores resident who rediscovered her passion for painting last winter in a watercolor class at Macomb, taught by Marilynn Thomas. Dann is planning to exhibit some of her artworks for the first time in a public setting at the upcoming show. “I am currently enjoying my second set of classes with Marilynn and plan to continue when the next series is offered.”

The show will include two different groups of artworks. A Youth Show, featuring the work of artists ages 3-15, will be held at the Anton Art Center Aug. 3-12. The Adult Show, featuring the work of artists 16 and older, will be at the center from Aug. 17-26. All of the artists exhibiting in the shows have taken art or photography classes through continuing education at the college.

“We are excited to be partnering with the college in presenting this new show, which we hope will become an annual event,” said Jennifer Callans, executive director of the Anton Art Center. “This show will introduce a number of new artists to the community.”

The Anton Art Center, housed in the historic Carnegie Library Building, is located at 125 Macomb Place, Mount Clemens.  It is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.  There is no charge for admission, although donations are welcome.
