NELSON-DENNY

 

Macomb Community College Learning Center administers the Nelson-Denny Examination for Macomb's Public Service Academies. Exams may be taken in one of two ways:

  1. Fire Academy & EMT Academy - on a walk-in basis at either Center or South Campus
  2. General - by appointment

The Nelson-Denny Examination is required when applying to Public Service Academies. The exam is a timed, two part reading test. The vocabulary portion is 15 minutes (80 questions) and the comprehension portion is 20 minutes (38 questions).

To be eligible for Public Service Academies, students must achieve a combined grade level score of 9.0 or greater. Students are allowed to take an initial test and a single retest per semester. 24 hours must pass before the retest is administered.

For a Nelson-Denny examination to be administered individuals must:

  • Be prepaired to present a government issued photo ID
  • Provide student identification number or social security number
  • Pay a $3.00 administration fee
  • Follow all testing policies and procedures
  • Be aware of the Learning Centers' hours of operation. Please arrive at least 60 minutes prior to closing—tests cannot begin after this time.
