The Macomb Community College Financial Aid Office is concerned about privacy and security of student records. The student is required to provide identification before he/she can receive service or obtain information about his/her financial aid record. This procedure is implemented as an ongoing effort to protect the confidentiality of the student's records.
The student ID requirements for Financial Aid Applicants provides guidance on the requirements for students who want to authorize the spouse or one parent access to the student's financial aid record. The Identification Authorization Form must be submitted, in person, by the student, along with a photo ID.
The U. S. Department of Education also collects the student's and parent(s)' social security on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Privacy Act information is listed below.
Information on the Privacy Act and use of your Social Security Number
The Department of Education uses the information the student provides on the FAFSA to determine if the student is eligible to receive federal student financial aid and the amount the student is eligible to receive. Sections 483 and 484 of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, gives the Department of Education the authority to ask the student and parents these questions, and to collect the Social Security Numbers of the student and parents. The student’s Social Security Number is used to verify the student’s identity and retrieve the student’s records, and they may request the student’s Social Security Number again for those purposes. State and institutional student financial aid programs may also use the information on this form to determine if the student is eligible to receive state and institutional aid and the need the student has for such aid.
Macomb Student Identification Number
Macomb Community College issues a unique number to each student. We encourage the student to use this number, and not the social security number, on all correspondence and documents submitted to the Financial Aid Office.
