Many high school students throughout Macomb County and elsewhere are preparing for their future by taking regular college courses online for college readiness, career exploration, and to get an “early start” transitioning to higher education. These students are more likely to earn their associate's degree sooner after high school graduation, begin working on their bachelor’s degree, or otherwise join the workforce sooner with necessary knowledge and skills to succeed.
Some high school dual enrollment students from Chippewa Valley, Oakland Schools, Romeo, and Warren Consolidated School Districts are taking college courses online together for both high and college credit. Not all college credit courses, however, are allowed for graduation credit by some high schools or are being paid by respective school districts.
Other individual high school students are selecting from over 200 online college course sections during the summer, winter, and fall semesters to meet their needs. Tuition and fees are typically paid by parents.
All high school age students are encouraged to consult with their parents and school counselors about readiness for college and the possibility of earning dual enrollment credit. “Ask An Advisor” at Macomb College is also encouraged by e-mail or telephone (586.286.2228 or 586.445.7211) to ask questions and be provided student support services.
