Career Academies, currently offered during the summer, include week-long learning programs designed to help high school students, like you, form a realistic view of specific career choices.
During the week-long career academies, students participate in actual activities associated with the different careers. Parents and family members are invited to a session held at the end of the week to review what the teens learned and what to expect if their child decides to pursue that particular career.
To participate in any of the academies, students must be at least 15 years old and have a 2.0 grade point average. Career academies being offered during the summer include, the Law Enforcement Academy, Robotics Academy, Fire Service Academy, Media/Communication Arts Academy, Veterinary Technician Academy, Culinary Arts, and Biotechnology.

Law Enforcement
June 16-20, 2008 8 a.m.-4 p.m. $160.00
Learn from professional law enforcement practitioners who will give you the opportunity to experience what it is like to be a police officer. Participants will take the M.C.O.L.E.S.
and the pre-employment Physical Agility test.
Media and Communication Arts
June 23-27, 2008 9 a.m.-3 p.m. $160.00
Explore the graphic arts industry with state-of-the-art equipment and software. Be creative or just have fun with digital cameras and computers.
Culinary/Pastry Arts

Students have the opportunity to cook side-by-side with professional chefs. Learn about different types of food service establishments and what types of jobs are available. Hot food kitchen and bakeries will be the focus.
Veterinary Technician

Animal lovers- here is your chance to learn first hand how to take proper care of animals
from professional licensed veterinary technicians and become familiar with many animal related careers.
Veterinary Technician II-Exotic Animals

(pre-requisite: must have completed Veterinary Technician Academy) Students will have the opportunity to work with exotic animals such as snakes, turtles, rabbits, hedgehogs and birds. Learn the common veterinary medical procedures.
Fire Service

Participants will learn from professional fire service practitioners what it's like to be a fire fighter in today's society. Students will also take the Macomb Fire and Emergency Services physical agility test.
Robotics

Macomb's team of instructors will take you through the entire process of designing,
constructing and debugging a robot. Students will receive hands-on experience as well as exposure to demonstrations in this field.
Biotechnology
July 7-10, 2008 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. $120.00
This field is growing at a tremendous rate with many job opportunities. Students will
analyze drug and vaccine components, analyze DNA, perform cutting-edge scientific techniques and learn about other growing Biotechnology fields.
