Touching the Future

Do you want a career that is noble in its intent and far-reaching in its impact? Do you believe curiosity must be nurtured and learning should be lifelong and individualized? Are you looking for days filled with smiles, fun, laughter and new discoveries?  If so, then teaching is the career for you!

Starting at Macomb

Students can complete their first two years of study at Macomb and then transfer into a bachelor’s degree teacher education program at another college or university. Macomb’s Associate of Baccalaureate Studies (ABS) degree, in particular, takes the guess work out of class selection and ensures a seamless transfer of credits.

Transferring

Macomb’s ABS degree is designed for students who have decided on their major, such as teaching, and to which senior institution they plan to transfer to in order to complete their bachelor’s degree. After completing the first two years of coursework at the program’s designated minimum grade point average at Macomb, students enter their transfer institution as a junior. Macomb has agreements for its ABS degree with Oakland University, Wayne State University and Central Michigan University for a variety of degree program majors, with more on the way. Students interested in a program, college or university for which a current ABS agreement is not in place, should consult with a counselor or advisor to see if a transfer plan of study may be available.

“Staying” at Macomb

Close to home, Oakland University offers a bachelor’s degree completion program in elementary education at Macomb’s University Center on our Center Campus in Clinton Township. At Macomb’s University Center, Wayne State University also offers a Bachelor of Arts or Science in Elementary Education, a Bachelor of Arts or Science in Secondary Education and post baccalaureate coursework for secondary education certification, which allows students to complete many of the professional education courses that can lead to teacher certification in grades seven through twelve.
