Answers to Placement Testing's most popular inquiries.
What are the hours of operation?
Our normal hours of operation are Monday and Tuesday from 9am till 6pm and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am till 4:30pm. COMPASS is an untimed examination. Typically students complete this placement exam within 1 to 2 hours. The final seating is one hour before closing, so plan accordingly for your arrival time. Please review our current semester schedule or call to confirm hours of operation.
Do I need an appointment?
No appointments are necessary; students are served on a walk-in basis. During the busiest months of the year (June, July and August) you may wish to report to the Placement Office shortly before it opens in the morning to get your name on a waiting list for that day of testing.
Is there a fee for taking the test?
There is no charge to new students of Macomb College on their first attempt taking the Placement Test. $25 will be charged for each retake. For individuals taking the test for a college other than Macomb, a $25 test proctor fee will be charged.
Do I have to take the placement test if I have already taken it at another college?
If you have COMPASS scores from other Colleges that use the same version of COMPASS as Macomb, and can have an official copy of them mailed or faxed to the Placement Testing office, those scores can be used in lieu of retesting. Macomb College uses ONLY the COMPASS score for placement purposes.
How long will I have to wait to retake the COMPASS test?
Students must wait at least one week hours before attempting to retake the COMPASS test. After retesting, the student may not retest again for 120 days.
