Eligibility requirements
The student must:
- be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits or more) in an associate degree program or academic degree-credit certificate program during semester of award
- have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, with at least one term recently completed at Macomb
- provide documentation of the requested assistance
- complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (Preferred, not required)
Examples of eligible expenses:
Utilities, housing/rent, food, medical/dental expenses, personal automobile expenses (gas, repairs), public transportation, child care, etc.
Ineligible expenses:
Tuition, fees, books, legal expenses
Application process
- Complete and submit the on-line application (http://macomb.dreamkeepers.org/)
- Submit documentation to support the request (on-line, via mail or fax, or in person)
- Student will be contacted by the Macomb program administrator when the completed application is received
- The Macomb program administrator will conduct an interview with the student
- The submitted documentation will be reviewed by a committee
- Macomb program administrator will notify student of approval or denial of the request
Note: Submitting an application does not guarantee approval. Payments
If approved, payments will be issued to the student's Macomb Debit Card on the weekly scheduled refund day unless otherwise requested.
Obligations of Recipients
Recipients must agree to provide written documented proof (receipts) that Dreamkeepers Emergency Assistance funds were applied to the emergency expense for which the funds were approved. A hold will be placed on student's college record until documentation is received. If the student fails to submit receipts for all expenses approved, the student may be responsible for repayment of funds and the hold will remain on his/her student account until the balance is paid in full.
Additional Information
Though not required to receive funding, recipients may be asked to participate in follow-up studies or promotional efforts, including sharing their story about how Dreamkeepers Emergency Financial Assistance enabled the student to stay in college.
Maximum award amounts: Up to $500.00 per semester and a maximum of $1500.00 lifetime.
