"American Visions" Documentary Series
4:30 to 6PM, in South Campus Library, room J-221
In this 4th episode, "The Gilded Age", Hughes explores the many sides of America in the 19th century such as the extravagant "cottages" of Newport's tycoons, the triumph of the Brooklyn Bridge, the haunting realism of Civil War photography, the elegant portraits of John Singer Sargent, and the American Impressionism of James Whistler and Mary Cassatt. Together with a new breed of distinctly American artists like Thomas Eakins and Winslow Homer, they combined to mirror widely different experiences of the American dream.
This event is free and open to the public. Call Tom Salas at 586.445.7378 for more information.

The 25th Annual World Food Day Teleconference pre-recorded
The theme this year is: "Choices for a Warm and Hungry Planet"
"The current UNDP Human Development Report states that 'climate change is the defining human development challenge of the 21st Century. Failure to respond to that challenge will stall and then reverse international efforts to reduce poverty...Looking to the future, no country - however wealthy or powerful - will be immune to the impact of global warming.'"
Due to scheduling difficulties this year, the teleconference will not be televised live here at the college, however, the pre-recorded program will be shown at another day and time afterwards, to be announced. Simply contact Tom in the Office of Leadership and Spirituality for details at 586.445.7378 or keep checking out our website.
