ACCEPTABLE LIBRARY COMPUTER USE

 

Who Can Use the Computers:

Macomb College Library computers have been made available primarily for the use of students, faculty, and staff of Macomb Community College. While community residents can also use these resources, the needs of students, faculty and staff must take precedence. All minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult in order to use the computers.

What Uses are Permitted:
Library computers are to be used by students, faculty and staff for educational, research and/or informational purposes as they relate to the curriculum and business functions of Macomb Community College. Community residents may also use them for educational or research purposes. Users with legitimate educational needs directly related to the curriculum of Macomb College will receive preferential treatment for access to the Internet.

What Uses are Prohibited:
Library computers are present in order to support curriculum-related or college-related research and/or informational purposes of students, faculty and staff. Users found to be monopolizing computers for recreational purposes will be asked to give up their seat in order to accommodate users with legitimate educational needs.

The use of these machines for any illegal activity is forbidden. These activities include, but are not limited to, the use of others' personal information for fraudulent and/or criminal purposes, as well as the violation of federal and/or state obscenity or sexual harassment laws. Violation of federal copyright laws is also prohibited. Macomb College Library reserves the right to refuse access to the Internet to anyone found to be engaging in illegal activities.

Time Limits:
During peak periods, users may be asked to limit their time of computer use to one hour in order to accommodate those who are waiting.

Standards:
Macomb College Library computer access is a privilege. The following standards are applied to the use of these machines.

Attempts to alter the configuration of the computers is strictly prohibited. Anyone deliberately attempting to bypass security systems and alter machines will be banned from further use of these machines.

Users must adhere to federal copyright law in the use of all programs, data and information obtained from library computers.

Just as in the library as a whole, loud or disruptive behavior is unacceptable. Those who are warned about such behavior and fail to comply with a request will be asked to leave the premises.
