Online, Hybrid & Web-enhanced Courses

Online students, anywhere in the world, are able to take a variety of e-Learning courses.  Some full programs can be successfully completed 100% online without ever having to come on campus. Examples of such certificate and associate's degree programs offered 100% online include Accounting, Business Management, General Business, General Studies and Web Programming.  Additional course offerings, certificates, and associate's degree programs are being developed using ANGEL learning software for all online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses.

Many more traditional classroom courses are becoming web-enhanced to enable robust teaching and learning experiences with advantages of ANGEL and the Internet virtual learning environment.

Online Courses
Online (Virtual) courses are those for which all regularly scheduled, traditional classroom-oriented teaching and learning takes place in virtual classrooms.  Online courses allow students to take courses from anywhere in the world without need to be on campus or attend any traditional, “on-ground” classes.  For purposes of student authentication and program accreditation, however, students may be required to be on campus to take a proctored examination(s) or to do so at a campus location or at an authorized testing center.  All online (virtual) course sections are indentified with a specific course section (Datatel) designator in this Academic Schedule of Classes.  A “V” in the course section number, i.e., MKTG-1210-V0801, is an online (virtual) course offering.

Hybrid Courses
Hybrid courses, also known as “blended” at some colleges and universities, are designed to deliver a significant amount of instruction and student engagement in a virtual learning environment, but 100% of the instruction is not delivered in an online (virtual) environment.  A broader definition might simply be a combination of traditional in-person and virtual classroom instruction or facilitation constitutes a hybrid course.

Hybrid courses do not require students to be on campus for every class meeting like traditional or web-enhanced courses.  For example, a science course may be offered in a virtual classroom, but students may only be required to be on campus for specific laboratory experiences.  Students may also meet for the first time on campus or periodically throughout the semester in order to make presentations, participate in field trips, and/or take examinations.

All hybrid course sections are identified with a specific course section (Datatel) designator in this Academic Schedule of Classes.  An “H” in the course section number, i.e., MKTG-2010-H0802, is a hybrid course offering.

Web-enhanced Courses
Web-enhanced classes meet in traditional “on-ground” classrooms, on scheduled days and times, with teaching augmented through use of a virtual learning environment supported by ANGEL Learning software.  Attendance requirements for web-enhanced courses are the same as traditional “on-ground” courses.  For purposes of identification and schedule recognition, there is not a specific (Datatel) section designator shown in the Academic Schedule of Classes to indicate if a course is a web-enhanced course.

Course Curriculum Length

Online and hybrid courses all have the same academic rigor and relevance as do traditional courses.  Some are offered in variable-week formats. Traditional sixteen (16) week classes are often condensed to eight (8) weeks when offered as an online or hybrid course.  The same amount of academic preparation and work is required for eight week online and hybrid courses as it is for sixteen (16) week, traditional on-campus courses. Students are expected to provide meaningful contributions in their online and/or hybrid courses five out of seven days per week and expect to spend 15 to 20 hours weekly for each e-Learning course.  It is strongly recommended students enroll in only one online or hybrid course for the first time.  For experienced e-Learning students, no more than two online courses at a time is recommended.

24/7 Flexibility

Virtual classrooms are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When taking an online or hybrid course, please ensure that you login on the first day of class to download the first day handout, class schedule, assignments and other information provided by instructors.  Instructors typically assign regular, weekly assignments with specific deadlines that must be met.  Because online and hybrid courses are at a faster pace for a shorter period of time as compared to traditional on-campus classes, students are expected to “connect” with their instructor and classmates in the virtual classroom at least five days each week with engaging, purposeful, and well thought contributions.

e-Learning Registration Information

Enrolling in web-enhanced, hybrid and virtual courses follow the same registration, withdrawal, and refund guidelines as traditional, on-campus classes.  Check WebAdvisor for drop/add, refund and other polices.  Telephone or Web Registration can be used to enroll in online classes. Please ensure you have completed the TEL-REG/WEB-REG process and you have officially enrolled in course before contacting ANGEL Support. The first day of class for all courses is listed in this schedule of classes.

Soon after course registration and before the first day class, students must first log into ANGEL to complete Student Orientation to ANGEL in order to gain access to their online and/or hybrid course(s) the day it is scheduled to begin.  It is suggested that students  print first day handout and other information  after completing the mandatory Student Orientation to ANGEL before the first day of class.  Please note that hardware malfunction of your personal computer will not justify a special refund and failure to complete the orientation on a timely basis does not justify a special refund.
